thanks to my sister in-law mel's idea, we started reading Charlotte's Web to Lucy and Abby. the result: lucy loves it, loves it, loves it (it helps that there are drawings every few pages) and abby stays in the room (that's pretty good). it is fun to be reading real "books" now. i'm wondering if Stuart Little is ok to be next.

how fun! Hope she isn't traumatized by the ending, though....
Oh, I'm so glad you guys are enjoying it as much as we did!! I ended up reading the chapter where Charlotte ... you know... and I was getting all choked up, but the kids were totally fine with it. (I really should have had Billy read that chapter!) :)
We're doing the Trumpet of the Swan right now. I think we might do Charlie and the Chocolate Factory next.
What I really like about reading these books to them is that we do it once they're in bed, tucked in and it really helps them settle down and get sleepy. Emily is almost always mush by the time I've finished the chapter and I say goodnight! Jacob has fallen asleep a couple times while I read it. It's awesome!
Also, the language in these books is just so nice. I can't help but think it's so good for them to hear writing like this. (There's the teacher in me.) :)
Love Charlotte's Web! I'm so glad Lucy liked it, too. (The only thing I think is funny is that her brother is named Avery. So not a boy name in my opinion, but it was then!)
Fun Annie! We just finished reading both of these to Hannah and Elisa. THey LOVED Charolette's Web, and they both loved the first half of Stuart Little, but then got less interested in his drive Northward...Hannah is loving the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle (by Someone or other MacDonald)series though...let me know if you find some other literary treasures for little ones! :) Happy Reading!
